Getting a job associated with the 2012 Olympic Games could be the chance to share a moment of history on the global stage. Just make sure you enjoy working to tight deadlines.
A job with the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games & Paralympic Games is an opportunity to help deliver one of the most complex, high profile and deadline-driven events ever staged.
It certainly sounds glamorous, but can you cope with the pressure? How about being the Arrivals and Departures Terminal Co-ordinator, based at Heathrow Airport? You’ll be responsible for ensuring that 50,000 accredited clients arriving along with their accompanying baggage (yikes!) for the Games Games have a smooth transfer from the airport to their accommodation, and back again. Clearly this process is crucial to the Games as it “creates the first and last impression of the Games”, according to the job spec.
There’s bound to be something you’d like to do - because the total workforce needed for the London Games will reach 100,000, according to Adecco, the official recruitment services provider for London 2012. Staff are currently needed in fields as diverse as interpreting, civil engineering, architecture, aerospace, hospitality and tourism, retail, marketing and advertising and beauty.
Whichever way you look at it, the Olympic Games is a world-class name to add to your CV and might be a once in a lifetime experience that could open up some interesting opportunities and take your career in a new direction.
The London organising committee is aiming to recruit 15 to 20 per cent of it total workforce from the six host boroughs. Current jobs up for grabs include Production Manager – Video Projection and LED Screens, who will manage and co-ordinate the projection, screens and LED elements required for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
