CareerBalance have teamed up with London SEO specialists, Bigfoot Digital, to compile a list of the top cities in the UK to work in digital marketing.
We searched for marketing jobs using keywords such as “Marketing,” “Content Marketing,” “SEO,” “Advertising,” and “Public Relations” to find which cities have the most successful business opportunities.
The results we found do not reflect a precise number of vacancies, but rather a general overview of the most successful marketing locations across the UK. These cities have the most opportunities for those looking to use their transferable skills to embark on a career in digital marketing.
London proves to be a hotspot for marketing pros. Whatever your specialism, London’s business profile is hard to rival with a booming entrepreneurial culture and a supportive network providing ample opportunities for those looking for a change in career.
According to a report, around one-sixth of the 1.46 million people employed by digital firms across the country are located in London and there’s a reason for that – connections.
Due to the sheer number of digital companies operating in the capital it’s unsurprising that the capital hosts hundreds of networking events each month. This is a huge opportunity for startups and graduates to build relevant contacts and ‘get their foot in the door’ of some of the biggest companies in the UK.
Manchester is world-famous for lots of things, including two successful football clubs and a great nightlife. But, now there’s another to add to the list. It’s a great place to live and work for those looking for a career in a big city.
The ever-growing technology sector boasts 100,000 employees across the city. Some of the most recognised names in the industry are based here, including BBC, ITV, Guardian Media Group and Google among others. The city offers a competitive average salary of £24,492, which is higher than the UK’s average of £21,473.
A Northern contender in your search for a digital marketing position. Leeds’ digital and tech sector is growing at a rapid pace, with over 3000 companies selecting it as their home. If you are looking for a place to study before entering the digital sector, then consider Leeds Beckett University. It’s one of the top universities in the UK to produce graduates who go on to become CEO’s, and 94% of their graduates start full-time work within six months of graduating.
Some of the most successful digital marketing businesses are located in Sheffield, with top rankings on Google. Although not as popular for digital marketing as perhaps London or Manchester, almost 25,000 people are now working in creative and digital industries across Sheffield’s digital sector. If you are looking for a digital marketing position in the north, then Sheffield is a great option.
