THERE’s no longer just one time of year for job vacancies. Employers recruit when the need arises, so be job market ready at all times. At CareerBalance we are seeing an increase in employment opportunities as confidence in the economy grows.
2014 should be a good year to make a career move, especially if you have remained in the relative safety of your current role for a while. Time to dust down your CVs, review your USPs, and to look at other sectors where your skills and knowledge could be in demand.
These are the views held by Kevin Green, the chief executive of the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), the UK’s leading recruitment industry organisation. His organisation is already forecasting that the British recruitment market will see accelerating growth in the first quarter of 2014, growing by 7% in the first half of the year, and by more than 8% in the second half.
In an article in the International Business Times (http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/recruitment-chief-hails-2014-full-opportunity-uk-jobs-market-1430926),Mr Green said: “All in all this year will be the first of meaningful growth for a very long time. It will provide a positive backdrop for recruiters who want to expand and develop.”
But Mr Green identified downward pressure on margins and candidate availability, and the growing shortage of skilled talent, as the major challenges facing the UK’s recruitment industry.
He said the sector was entering a candidate driven market, with recruiters having to develop content that attracts this limited talent to meet their client’s requirements.
According to Manpower Group, a world leader in workforce solutions for small and large enterprises, 2014 will be the Year of the Swan. It’s Employment Outlook Survey for 2014, which is based on responses from more than 2,100 UK employers, claims the UK jobs market has the characteristics of a swan: it’s making steady, serene progress on the surface but it’s paddling away furiously underneath the water.
Take a plunge into the job market pool in 2014. You can be the serene swan gradually surveying the opportunities open to you. Let your CareerBalance coach paddle furiously beneath the surface. We’ll ensure you are clear on your next career move, can access the hidden job market, and be ready for those important interviews.
